Congressman Blake Moore’s Statement on Final House Passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Blake Moore issued the following statement following final House passage of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
“Today I was honored to vote for the National Defense Authorization Act, a robust and comprehensive bill that will promote innovation, strengthen our readiness and capabilities, provide for military families, counter the Chinese Communist Party, and ensure that the DoD can focus on honing its core competencies and competitive advantages.
“This legislation is a great win for Hill Air Force Base (HAFB). The NDAA fully funds the Sentinel (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent) program to modernize the land-based leg of the nuclear triad and bring nearly 4,000 jobs to Northern Utah as the first major Department of Defense acquisition program based out of HAFB. It authorizes over $240 million to reduce out-of-pocket housing expenses and skyrocketing rent, nearly $200 million for construction of new barracks, and over $120 million for off-installation childcare centers. The NDAA also helps spouse employment by expanding reimbursements for relicensing, business costs, and certification reciprocity.
“I am particularly grateful that my bill, the Retain Skilled Vets Act, was included in the passed legislation. This bill repeals the 180-day rule for retiring servicemembers, increasing civilian employment opportunities for veterans and retaining institutional expertise in the DoD ecosystem. Congress should not create obstacles to veterans who want to transition to civil service, especially as our depots, arsenals, and shipyards struggle to keep up with competitive hiring environments.
“As co-chair of the Depot and Air Force caucuses and the congressional representative of Hill Air Force Base, I am proud to support this bill that will strengthen America’s defense prowess and enhance our dominance on the global stage.”
