Congressman Blake Moore's Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman Blake Moore issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe. v. Wade:
"I am thrilled with today's Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The ruling gives back to states like Utah their constitutional authority to protect the lives of millions of children and support expecting mothers. This is a monumental day in our nation's history.
Advocating for the most vulnerable members of our community has been one of my most sacred priorities in Congress. Being pro-life means more than protecting unborn children from the tragedy of abortion. It means changing our culture to support expecting moms, families with children, and low-income parents who are struggling to make ends meet. It means providing resources and support for women navigating unexpected pregnancies and amplifying our foster care and adoption systems. I have been invested in supporting children in foster care since I was in high school, and I was honored to serve on the board of Raise the Future before being elected to Congress. In Congress, I am part of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption and I have led out on efforts to improve foster care services and adoption processes and make America’s child welfare services more evidence based.
I have cosponsored legislation that would support mothers navigating unexpected pregnancies, including the Care For Her Act, which would establish a commitment to care for expecting mothers and their unborn children through expanding the Child Tax Credit, providing State and federal resources, distributing grants for housing, job training, and more. I also co-introduced the Adoption Outcomes and Affordability Act, which would authorize the Administration for Children and Families to award grants to state or local governments, public or private adoption agencies, and faith-based organizations for the purpose of enhancing medical support services and mental health resources for mothers considering adoption.
We must use this moment in history to review how we support women and low-income families and empower them with a helping hand to provide healthy, safe, and stable outcomes for their families. We must fight for every child to receive equal opportunities, no matter the circumstances of their conception or birth."
